What We Like:Â Excellent design, Lightweight
What We Don’t: Pricey, Only one size
The Grivel Stealth looks like a helmet right out of N64’s GoldenEye; you just don’t quite get geometric shapes like this anymore. Oddly enough, the various panels and angles allow the helmet and its suspension system to sit lower on the climber’s head and feel a bit more natural. If I had a nickel for the number of times I bumped a helmet into the roof of a climb because I’m not quite sure how high my helmet sits, I’d be able to afford the Grivel Stealth.

Construction
Using a molded EPS foam and polycarbonate shell, the Grivel is lightweight (6.7 ounces) and unlike other polycarbonate shells, can really take a beating. Grivel also states that the rigid and sharp angles create a higher-strength helmet versus the rounded helmets featured heavily in our 2021 list. We also like how far the sides and back of the helmet extend, really covering the back of the head of the wearer. One drawback is that the helmet is one-size-fits-all, so people with smaller heads may struggle getting it to fit properly, and if you have a real melon on you like myself it is also going to be a tricky fit. This is especially true in colder temps when you want to get a beanie underneath the helmet.
Adjustability
There is limited adjustability for the Stealth. The rock climbing helmet comes with a strap-style rear adjustment to tighten the helmet onto your head. Once the tabs are found, it is easy to handle with or without gloves. There is no additional adjustment around the ears and the chin strap is a standard buckle system. Very vanilla, but it gets the job done and remains quite comfortable.
Accessories
The headlamp clips are the four standard clips that wrap the helmet. They are slightly recessed into the plastic shell, which may make it tricky to get the headlamp strapped in initially, but once it is seated properly it will hold onto the strap very well. Along the sides and back of the helmet are several vents, but the helmet is missing any venting along the front, which seems to make the most difference in cooling down your head.
The Bottom Line
Aesthetically, this helmet takes a second to get used to, however the designers have put a lot of thought into the design to maximize protection while minimizing weight. Grivel is a European company so the helmet will incur some shipping fees if bought directly from the manufacturer. Also, it is $112 USD before shipping, so it is quite an expensive helmet. We really like the design and fit options of the Grivel coupled with its impressive durability, but for the price, there are lighter and easier to acquire options in the American market that would make more sense.
