Comfort & Weight

The Falcon GVs boast out-of-the-box comfort despite not having quite as much cushion as similar hiking boots. The dual-density midsole is more firm than soft, but it’s assisted by Asolo’s Lite 2 footbed. For extra cushioning, we recommend supplementing this with a custom insole. The suede and mesh uppers provide excellent cushioning for your ankles. The lacing system for the Asolo Falcon GV consists of four metal hook eyelets followed by a pair of wider-set nylon loops, with another set of metal hook eyelets at the top. It’s a relatively simple system that gets the job done. We recommend keeping the lacing looser at the bottom and tighter around the ankles for maximum comfort and support.

A pair of men’s size 11 Falcon GVs weighs in at 2.48 lbs (1.12 kg), which leaves these somewhere near the middle of our list on the weight scale. As far as lightweight/day hiking boots are concerned, this is by no means heavy, and although there are lighter options out there, the comfort that you’ll get from the Falcon GVs makes them worth every ounce.

Water Resistance & Durability

Asolo went top-of-the-line with its waterproof lining, electing to use Gore-Tex Extended Comfort, which excels at keeping out water and promoting premium breathability. Out of all the boots in our review, this material scored the highest and illustrates that although it’s possible to opt for a waterproof membrane other than Gore-Tex, it’s quite another thing to improve on their design. Flood height on these boots is a staggering 5.75 inches, making the Falcon GVs an excellent choice when the going gets wet.

The suede and nylon uppers, while incredibly comfortable, are not nearly as tough as leather, but they are reinforced with a Cordura cuff (it was actually Asolo founder Giancarlo Tanzi who invented the first Cordura-equipped trekking boots). At the front of the Falcon GV is a TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) toe cap for reinforced durability. Although quite sturdy, it could be just a bit taller for additional coverage.

Styles & Sizes

There are three color options for the Asolo Falcon GVs, including Gray/Black (which actually features small red accents), Graphite/Graphite/Blueberry, and a personal favorite, Graphite/Black, which almost seems like a mislabeling, as much of the sides are a vibrant blue. Sizes range from 8-14 US, but only regular width options are available. The Falcon GVs come with a 2-year warranty, and they can be resoled at an additional cost if need be.
